What happens at death?

How do we know what we know?

How do we decide right from wrong?

Where is history going?

 Faith and Reason

Role of Reason‑‑Reason is one's ability to think correctly and make  judgments.

Not worship of mind

Not rejection of mind

Rational because in image of God

 Nature of Truth‑‑Truth is a statement that agrees with reality.

Tests of truth:

Does it fit the facts?

Is it logically consistent?

Does it ring true in life?

 Nature of Faith‑‑Faith is trust based on sufficient evidence

Based on facts

In accord with reason

Goes beyond facts and reason

Issues in action and feelings

Involves both confidence and commitment

 2. Does God Exist?

 A world without God

No ultimate purpose or meaning to life

No absolute moral standards or values

No hope not canceled by death

 Objections to belief in God

Problem of evil and suffering

Wish thinking

Unscientific

 Evidence for God from Nature

Uncaused First Cause

Man's moral nature points to a moral Maker

Design in universe points to a Designer

Assumptions of science are rooted in the view that God created the universe and man
